What Is Biochar?
Biochar is made by heating plant material in low-oxygen conditions, creating a stable, porous form of carbon that can become a long-lasting part of the soil.
Good biochar has tiny spaces that can hold moisture, nutrients and habitat for microbes, especially once it has been blended with compost or liquid feed.
Fresh biochar can temporarily hold onto nutrients. Charging it with compost, worm castings, manure, compost tea or plant feed prepares it before it goes into beds or pots.
